PROBLEM SOLVED: As much as I love the Hat and Glass routine, I’ve always felt that the misdirection wasn’t quite enough for a large audience, it’s great for a small crowd, but there’s not much to see or hook the bigger crowd, and if that’s not handled properly, eyes could wander and secrets could be revealed.
Back in an old issue of the Magic Wand, Victor Peacock a British performer, published his stage routine for the glass of water under the hat and I can’t tell you how happy I was that he did just that. It’s brilliant, and it creates not only a simple, powerful plot that any crowd can understand but has a built in kinetic misdirection better than any thing I’ve ever seen.
This teach-in covers the basic bullet points of Victor’s wonderful routine. A little later on Magic On The Go we will discuss his entire script, which contains numerous brilliant subtleties. But first, the basics…
