KEN BROOKE - THE LOST LECTURE - A THREE PART SERIES.
I have great friends in magic, I really do. Friends who understand what Magic On the Go is all about and support in many different ways!
Thanks to my friend Quentin Reynolds, I am able too present a very special - exclusive - three part series,
Ken Brooke - The Lost Lecture
I will explain all about it in the videos but basically…
In the 1970s Ken Brooke lectured in Ireland, the lecture was audio recorded, but thought lost…
Not anymore….
You now get a chance to listen to Ken lecture as if you were there, and what a wonderful lecture it is.
A wonderful opportunity to listen to Ken Brooke give his opinions on gags, business, lazy magicians, the multiplying bottles, the chop cup, and so much more. Not to mention some comments about a young lad called Paul Daniels that are prophetic.
And thanks to Quentin Reynolds, this will be exclusively for Magic on the Go members for the time being.!
Not only that, because Quentin was actually there at the lecture, he remembers all the bits and so has kindly provided us with his own video, visually explaining the gags and business that Ken Brooke talked about in the lecture, as well as a full transcript of the entire lecture.
Quentin was just a young man back then, but he remembers it like it was yesterday!
This is what Magic On the Go is all about, not just great Magic, but brilliant history, performance hacks, and so much more!
It’s not just how to DO it.. but HOW to do it!
ADDITIONALLY THE VIDEOS JUST GOT TURBO CHARGED!
I really have the best friends in magic,
Recently another pal, Ken Sky, long time supporter of Magic On the Go, fellow magician and tech genius offered to help clean up the sound quality and add subtitles!
So I have re-edited the two Ken Brooke lecture videos to take advantage of Ken Sky’s kind offer, he’s cleaned up the audio immensely and the subtitles are incredibly useful.
All together now, thanks Ken Sky!
I have to say hearing Ken Brooke speak such wisdom is so much fun. And you can tell he’s frustrated as hell with magic and magicians! So many great truths, some would say he was being harsh, I think he’s right on the money.
I worked recently in a show called Cirque Alice, alongside some 15 different circus acts, the dedication and work ethic is just astonishing. They have to be on their game, ALL THE TIME, one mistake and they could die - for real - those are REAL stakes. BUT… for us, a trick goes wrong, we move to the next, they don’t clap… we do a stock joke… blahhhh… I sometimes think our STAKES aren’t high enough as magicians. In the world of acting, STAKES are everything. Perhaps we will do a video on that soon, increasing the stakes in everything we do… But worth thinking about that NOW.
Another thing I noticed was how the circus performers start warming up and practicing HOURS before they go on stage. So they are at perfect condition for their entrance, I wonder how many magicians practice like that before they step foot on a stage, also worth thinking about.
Anyway, it’s amazing, over 50 years later and we are still being schooled by Ken Brooke!
Enjoy the lessons!
