I have a love/hate relationship with this method. There's no palming, not much skill needed, it seems obvious and yet in real life this method TOTALLY WORKS! Maybe it's magicians guilt.
What makes it worse is that the cards I'm about to show you, vintage though they are, are so well made, and well designed, I may just have to change my mind!

Fate lent a hand here.. I was looking for a spare set of Chapender Cards, found them online, the package even said they were CHAPENDER CARDS (from the 30's or 40') but they were ACTUALLY a variation of the original set, and they're really, rather GREAT!

Huge thanks to Quentin Reynolds who found this unusual set of cards. Strangely Gaetan Bloom had the same set in his Diminishing Card collection, but none of us knows the originator. I'm on a hunt for the answer, until then, enjoy this really clean version of a fantastic effect.
